National Sharing at SEAB
4 teachers, Mdm Shanthi Deena (HOD, English), Ms Felicia Ong (LH, English), Mdm Jennifer Lazar (Stellar Mentor) and Mrs Hema Ramasamy (Stellar Mentor), shared their insights on ‘Using Think-alouds to Assess Reading Comprehension’ at the SEAB Seminar on the 31 May 2023. The session highlighted the importance of employing think-alouds as a powerful strategy to evaluate students' comprehension skills. By verbalising their thought processes, students can deepen their understanding of the material, offering educators valuable insights into their cognitive processes. Cluster Sharing

The focus of their presentation was on 'Exploring Metacognition and Assessment as Learning in the English Classroom: Strategies, Insights, and Best Practices.' Subject Professional Development Time
During the subject professional development time which is held weekly, all English teachers actively participate in a dynamic exchange of strategies, fostering a culture of shared best practices and collaborative learning. Through focused professional discourse, they engage in level-specific discussions aimed at refining their competencies and addressing concerns. The collaborative environment extends to cooperative learning activities, including innovative approaches such as 'Stand-up, Hand up, Pair up.' This interactive method facilitates knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning. Additionally, teachers delve into comprehension strategies, enhancing their instructional toolkit and further enriching their professional development experience.
