Townville Parents United
In January 2008, Townsville set up Townsville Parents United (TPU), comprising the Townsville Parents Support Group and the Townsville Alumni (Parents). [Townsville alumni (parents) consist of parents of Townsville’s ex-students]. This is in support of the school ’s school-parent partnership philosophy that parents are our partners in education and a meaningful collaboration with parents supports our pupils ’ Holistic development, TPU now has about 200 members of whom 44 are active parent volunteers.
The objectives of TPU are:
- To engage parents actively and positively in school activities
- To support the school in non-teaching activities/events
- To build a positive and meaningful 2-way communication channel between parent and the school.
TPU members volunteered their services in support of a range of school events and activities such as Hui Chun, Sports Day, Eye-care Week (organisation of games for pupils during recess), Racial Harmony Day. They are also involved on a regular basis in library and ground duties as well as in the school Buddy Reading programme (EL, CL, ML and TL).
