CCA Objectives:

  • Develop members' musical interests, skills and talents and creativity in playing and performing a repertoire of traditional and world music
  • Providing an encouraging platform for members to showcase and share their musical interests
  • Inculcate discipline, confidence, resourcefulness and responsibility

Description:
The Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument or rattle made out of 2, 3 or 4 bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The word Angklung originated from the Balinese words ”angka” meaning “tone “ and ”lung”: “broken”. Angklung then means an incomplete tone. In Sundanese dialect, the name comes from the actual rattling sound: “kurulung angklung”. The Kulintang ensemble, which includes a xylophone range from Manado, North Sulawesi, usually accompanies the Angklung Ensemble to produce an unison piece of music.

8th August 2015 - Performed for SCCCI (Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry) Annual National Day Dinner at Suntec Convection Hall with Dr Ng Eng Hen as Guest-of-Honour

CCA Objectives:
Art Club was newly formed in Term 3 of 2008 to hone the artistic talents of pupils and cultivate a spirit of creativity, innovation and experimentation through art.

In the process, pupils would develop an understanding of art, value art, develop self-confidence and a sense of achievement.


Description:
In Art Club, pupils learn about Elements of Art using lines, colours, shapes and textures through various mediums, to create beautiful masterpieces under the guidance of an external art instructor. Through Art Club activities, pupils develop their visual senses, improve in artistic skills and are provided with opportunities to stretch their creative potential.

CCA Objectives:
Townsville Chinese Dance Seeks:

  • To train pupils to become refined performers, graceful and charming in their dance expression.
  • To encourage improvement of coordination skills and cultivate musical appreciation.
  • To promote musicality and self expression
  • To prepare pupils for performance and understand the importance of teamwork and coordination.

Description:
The Chinese Dance is a captivating art form, one that strengthens the learner physically and raises mental endurance.

Indian Dance

CCA Objectives:
• To allow pupils to master the different movements and facial expressions involved in Indian dance

Description:
The dancer will first learn to master basic steps involved in the traditional dance called bharathanatyam, after which the dancers will be taught how to dance different kinds of dances such as folk, contemporary and semi-classical.

These dance movement will enable our pupils to focus and build up their concentration power. The more experienced pupil will also be coaching the new comers. This allows them to build up their leadership qualities. The kids re trained to perform in various events externally and internally.

The pupils received regular invitations to perform at Teck Ghee CC events every 2 years.

Malay Dance

CCA Objectives:
  • To promote awareness and interest in learning and mastering the traditional and contemporary movements of Malay Dance
  • Help students make connections between values, skills and competencies learnt and promote positive interactions among students
  • Develop students’ leadership qualities and provide opportunities for student to demonstrate leadership

Description:
Dancers will be first introduced with three basic traditional steps namely, inang, joget & Zapin. They are expected to master these steps to ensure they are ready for other genres of music and movement. The more experience dancers will act as mentor to assist and encourage the newcomers and all the dancers will be prepared for performance at school events and others .

Dancers are also trained to hold leadership positions to help out in preparation for performances such as being props managers and accessories managers.

Choir

CCA Objectives:
  • Being a performing arts club that provides enjoyment from singing for its choir members.
  • Allows pupils a platform to learn singing skills and gain confidence performing for an audience.
  • Pupils to enhance their language, listening and rhythmic motor control skills.
  • Builds discipline and character by cooperating with one another to sing together in parts.

Description:
The TVPS choir was set up in early 2015 and comprises of enthusiastic individuals who have come together for their common love of song and music. They are conducted by Mr Shaun Jarrod Tan, accompanied by pianist Mr Aaron.

CCA Achievements:
Despite its very early beginnings, the TVPS Choir has had the opportunities to perform both in school and outdoors. They have since performed for school events such as the 2015 open house at Townsville Primary as well as its prize giving ceremony. They have also participated in MusicFest@SGH in June this year, where they brought their music to the patients and visitors at SGH. It was our pleasure to have been a joy to the people at SGH! The choir was also part of the Christmas Light Up event 2015. They performed christmas favourites like Frosty the Snow man and Jingle Bell rock in front of the beautiful backdrop at Orchard Road. Our president, Mr Tony Tan, was there to officiate the light up. The pupils had a wonderful time!
